In September we went through a period of warmth and continued sunshine.
A temperature so hot that the colors of Fall looked anything but benign.
I feared that the heat might rob us of the grandeur of the season.
I could think of no other excuse for a lack of color as a valid reason.
Then a week ago it seemed as though the season of Fall had ended.
The winds turned from the north and most trees’ leaves were rescinded.
The Ash, Honeylocust and Oak already provided their vast colors to say hello.
But yet to amaze were the hearty Maples, showcasing their various hues of yellow.
This week the temperatures have risen to above sixty degrees.
What visions of grandeur when I spotted the hearty Maple trees.
One would have thought the leaves would have been extinguished.
But the trees have held on for dear life, only a few leaves were relinquished.
My digital camera caught sights of color while I was on the run.I breathed in the smell of Fall as if it had only just begun.
The smell I acquired in my youth after burying myself in many leaf piles.
I always laid still and quiet for Dad, until running out with all smiles.

Those pictures are gorgeous!! The sun is in the right position to highlight that beautiful golden yellow!!
I swear, I don’t know what it is about fall. It’s totally intoxicating. Wonderful. Brings out so many memories.
i agree with lewis, there is something about the smells, the temperature just the feeling of fall……..if you let yourself you can get lost in its beautiful charm………
The leaves are finally showing off their vivid colors here in South Carolina. It is beautiful. It is so late in the season, though. I, too, was afraid we would miss the beauty of fall. Gorgeous pictures, btw.
Beautiful photos and prose, as usual!
I love the smell of autumn.
And nothing is more welcoming than a huge pile of leaves to jump into.
Wow, still you have beautiful bright colors, your pictures are great. Usually though when everything becomes yellow that is the last stage, they will start to come down now. So glad I don’t have to rake anymore! ; p

Those pictures are gorgeous! I just noticed last night, the leaves are falling from the trees in Andersonville (that’s where I noticed it, but it’s probably happening everywhere there are trees–I don’t have any outside my window in Rogers Park).
I love the smell of leaves in the Fall. That’s what it’s all about for me.
Yeah, it is fall here also. 60s at night and high 70s, low 80s during the day…. PERFECT weather!
Absolute delicious!
Is this what suburbia looks like? Awesome!
Thanks for your kind words.
